Child Marriage Restraint Act – Impact of the law to end child marriage

December, 1

According to the new "Child Marriage Restraint Act 2016" the minimum age of girls for marriage has fixed 18 and 21 for males. But if a girl becomes pregnant accidentally or illegally in order to protect her honour a provision has been included to allow child marriage in "special cases". The woman rights activists are protesting against the "special cases" part as they think it is violation of child rights and the act would encourage child marriage rather than stop it.
